Situated in the small village El Marchal, 25 minutes from the popular beach resort Mojacar in the foothills of the Sierra Filabres, a pretty village house which has extending views of the village below and mountains in the near distance.

The property has been sympathetically restored and has a cosy and traditional feel. With a vegetable garden and rock garden, a pergola has been added for shade which leads you into the living room via the original Andaluz stable door!

A rustic cortijo-style farmhouse with 1 m thick rock walls built around the 1700s. It was thoroughly renovated by previous owners with new electrical wiring, plastered walls, tiled floors, new doors and windows.

Current owners used it a few months per year as a second home and home office with a reliable Internet satellite.

The house is on two levels. The kitchen and bathroom are on the lower floor with nice cooler temperatures. The upper floor has three bedrooms and a lounge with a fireplace and lovely rustic Andalusian features, such as a bamboo roof, wooden beams, it’s old heavy wooden door.

A sitting room with built seating and a wood burning fire for winter warmth, off the sitting room are three good sized bedrooms. Stairs lead down to the farmhouse kitchen with olive beams which give the kitchen with the built Andalucian style cupboards the authentic and historic feel.

A large bathroom is off the kitchen with a door leading back out to the garden.

A small garden patch with olive, orange, lemon, nispero, fig and mandarin trees is ideal for anyone who loves gardening and growing their own organic food. Local markets provide plants and stores carry seeds. Current owners also offer their own free seed bank from growing delicious tomatoes, kale or peppers. Growing period goes through all year.

The village has its own spring water and fountain to get fresh mountain water. It is just a 5 min. walk up the dry riverbed to the old traditional wash house and a lovely spring. Bring your bottles and get fresh water every day. Tap water is fine but not ideal for drinking.

El Marchal is inhabited by around 300 Spanish and a few other international residents. The village is well connected. Local farmers, butchers, cheesemakers, bakers deliver their produce daily and sell it right off their vans. Some villagers are fully sustainable with their own gardens and a few delivered goods.
